Alex at Floriade

Today our young guest writer Alex de Leeuw returns to tell us all about his visit to Floriade with myself and my parents (during their visit last week). Since Alex is Dutch and only young his post has been translated into English by my wife.

Vandaag zijn wij naar de Floriade gegaan. Het is een tuin-expositie. Dat betekent dat er veel planten en dat soort dingen zijn.

Today we went to Floriade. It’s a horticultural exposition. That means there are lots of plants and stuff…

Er waren overal bloemen…

There were flowers everywhere…

…en het weer was heel heel lekker.
“Mmmmm. Zon.”

… and the weather was really really nice.
“Mmmmm. Sun.”

Het eten was een beetje raar.
“Ik vind groen eten niet lekker.”

The food was a little bit odd though…
“I don’t like green food.”
Alex at Floriade 5
Maar later vonden wij gelukkig normaal eten.
“Dat is beter.”

But later we found somewhere to get normal food…
“That’s better.”
Alex at Floriade 6
…en ? waar naartoe?
“Hierheen denk ik.”

… and decided where to go next.
“I think we should go here.”
Alex at Floriade 7
Wij zijn naar India gegaan…

We went to India…

…en China, maar niet echt natuurlijk. Het was allemaal een stukje van de expositie.

…and China but not the real ones of course. It was all part of the exposition.

Er was heel veel te doen. Ik geef de vissen te eten.
“Dag Meneer Vis.”

There were lots of things to do. I feed some fish…
“Hello Mr Fish.”

…en ik vond een klein strand om te spelen.

… and even found a small beach to play on.

“Ja. Inderdaad.”

“Yes. It is.”

Stuart

Stuart is an accident prone Englishman who has been living in the Netherlands since 2001. Even his move to the country was an unintentional accident, the result of replying to a cryptic job advertisement he found one day in a local British magazine. Since then he has learned to love the Dutch (so much so that he married one of them) and now calls the country home. He started the blog Invading Holland in 2006 as a place to share his strange stories of language misunderstandings, cultural confusions and his own accident prone nature.

  1. Leuk gedaan! PS: The translation does not appear on the Google Reader Feed, for some odd reason. No problem for me ;) but not nice for others. I think it is because the white color of the font disappears into the white background on the Feed version.

Wat leuk foto’s! I’m glad you all had such a good time.

  3. Iooryz says:

I’m glad that Alex enjoyed the Floriade. I’ve been there as well, and it was fun!

I went like a month ago when my family was here- took lots of pictures but never got around to writing it up. Coolest thing was there was a stand that day where they were making “flower jewelry” for free where the florist looked at you and made something based on what you looked like- I got a yellow orchid necklace for example which matched my turquoise shirt perfectly. :)

    Yay!! Alex is back!!

  6. Yaaaaaaay! It’s Alex the Lion! In a very GORGEOUS fair! :D

…Wait a minute. Did Alex have a makeover, or has he always had long, thin limbs and that cute smile to the side of his mouth?

  7. Invader_Stu says:

Miss Footlose – Ah. I think you’re right. I’ll fix that.

Alison – We did. Thank you :)

Iooryz – Did you go to this years one?

Yvette – That means you can only ever wear yellow tops otherwise it will never match :p

VallyP – It’s hard to believe it’s been over a year.

Barb the French Bean – You know what it’s like. They change so much at that age :p

Who needs to travel abroad when there’s the Floriade? ;-) Love the pics. The grass in the third picture looks fake though. It can’t possibly be that green. Or does it just stand out against Alex’s tan?

  9. Iooryz says:

Stu, I went to this one as well. In fact, my mother is going to be working there as volunteer near strawberries and aspargus at the house of taste.

  10. Invader Stu says:

Likeahike – Well… Alex did get very tanned but that patch of grass was indeed fake. Well spotted.

Iooryz – I know the place you mean as well :)
