Stuart
Stuart is an accident prone Englishman who has been living in the Netherlands since 2001. Even his move to the country was an unintentional accident, the result of replying to a cryptic job advertisement he found one day in a local British magazine. Since then he has learned to love the Dutch (so much so that he married one of them) and now calls the country home. He started the blog Invading Holland in 2006 as a place to share his strange stories of language misunderstandings, cultural confusions and his own accident prone nature.

Cool, Stu!! That’s brilliant! Well done xx
How great to be in the mag! Congrats…
Hahaha, apt. Lovely. :)
This is classic. This is actually how any Dutch party is to me. Even an three-day rave. It just ain’t as exciting as it would be elsewhere. I guess it’s that Calvinism, yet again…
Sorry, I’d usually not comment on old posts but I’m binge reading your blog now that I just discovered it!
That’s cute that you picture the Dutch party as one where you get more than one piece of cake or cookie! :D We always joked with other East European colleagues about that and I always have to remind my Dutch husband that in Latvia it’s not only allowed but also expected (unless you want to offend the cake maker) that you’d take another piece of cake!
