Winning a Game of Risk Against My Dutch Family-In-Law
Breaking News about my continued attempts to beat my Dutch family-in-law in a game of Risk!
I have emerged victorious. Many said it could not be done. Many said I would not survive. Many said I would be driven insane trying but against all odds I have prevailed and emerged victorious.
There were times when defeat seemed inevitable but even in the darkest hour I never lost hope, I never gave up. And now, because of this determination, I can proudly declare that this day will hence forth be remembered as the day I beat my Dutch father-in-law, brother-in-law and wife at a game of Risk (and that they are never allowed to mention what happened in Mongolia again).
Assignment: North American & Africa
I fully expected to be hand over command of the Dutch military any day now since I am clearly the man for the job.

Congrats. I know the feeling. I would always win at home against my brothers. But every game I played with friends I always lost.
BTW the beer is great! Did you ever get in a situation that two dutchies where fighting about which dutch beer is better? Heineken or Grolsch? Happens to me a lot.

That and someone was telling me that the Dutch military is going to combine with those of Belgium and Luxembourg in the coming years, so maybe you have to set your sights a bit further? :)

Congrats! I remember all-night Risk games during my first year at university. That’s what happens when you get a dorm full of students interesting in international relations. Good times! Although I’m slightly relieved that some of them don’t seem to have moved on to world domination.

Dragonlady & Luuk – Trust someone to ask :p Well… let’s just say my victory should have actually come in the game the evening before. I’d taken South America and was in the process of taking Asia. In one mighty sweep I had taken half the globe. Victory was at hand… and then I’d discovered I’d missed Mongolia. I’d left a single enemy behind and already moved my forces on. I could not get them back in time. I’d cut them off and I lost in the next turn. We never talk about Mongolia any more (at least I don’t). What happens in Mongolia stays in Mongolia.
